Staff Profiles

An introduction to the staff at ERCCIS.

Manager, Gary Lewis

  • Responsible for the strategic development, daily management and budget management of ERCCIS
  • Recorder support and liaison; sits on Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Federation of Biological Recorders (CISFBR) committee
  • Manages and services the ERCCIS Advisory Board
  • Currently Chairman of national association of local record centres (ALERC)

Gary took over the post of manager in June 2007 after 31 years service in the Royal Navy. He achieved a BSc in Wildlife and Countryside Management from Sparsholt College studying part time during his last four years in the Royal Navy. He had also been a volunteer with Cornwall Wildlife Trust working on Churchtown Farm Community Nature Reserve in Saltash. He is passionate about birds and has recently broadened his interests to include butterflies, moths and dragonflies.

Data Officer, Martin Goodall

  • Manages the ERCCIS species, habitat, online & GIS data
  • Development of ERCCIS
  • Manages ERCCIS Volunteers
  • Deputises for the ERCCIS Manager

Martin started at ERCCIS in January 2010 after six years working for the Environment Agency. He has a BSc (Hons) from Swansea University and a Diploma in Fisheries Management from the Open University. Martin's wildlife interests are broad and include the freshwater, marine and coastal ecosystems.

Information Co-ordinator, Wildlife Information Service (WIS), Nic Harrison-White

  • First point of contact for enquiries about wildlife and geology
  • Manages the Wildlife Information Service for ERCCIS and the Cornwall Wildlife Trust, providing ecological data and advice
  • Supervises workshops and the events programme

Following on from a Dip HE in Biological Sciences and an HND in Environmental Monitoring, Nic came to the Cornwall Wildlife Trust in 1999 to work on the World Wildlife Fund for Nature’s European Habitats Atlas. Nic runs the Wildlife Information Service, where his skills are constantly added to in dealing with a vast range of questions about the county’s natural environment. Nic’s role means his professional wildlife interests need to remain broad, but he is an especially keen mammalogist and entomologist. Nic manage a farm on the edge of Bodmin Moor for its nature conservation interests.

Assistant Information Co-ordinator, WIS, Sue Scott

  • Provides support for WIS functions
  • Organises workshop and events programme
  • Provides support for local recorders

Sue started volunteering at ERCCIS in 2003 and soon became an invaluable paid member of the team, working alongside Nic on the Wildlife Information Service. Sue is an active wildlife recorder and her recent finds include a Nationally Scarce spider from the doorframe of ERCCIS. Her keen interest in invertebrates has led her to help form the Cornwall Invertebrate Group. Sue is the main contact for ERCCIS Events and Workshops.
